What's the goal in leaving the opamp open loop?

@Adam01 I have done it both ways: hardware and software. Some processors (by no means all) have invariant cycle-accurate delays into interrupt code (ADSP-21xx comes to mind) so you have no jitter at...
View ArticleComment by periblepsis on Why doesn't this LED work in this transistor circuit?
Maybe because the base of Q2 is half a volt (or more) more positive than the collector, and that this extra half volt (or more) is enough to make the difference in that simulation for whether it shows...

@tpimh Are you talking about this card that was used with the old IBM 5151 display? If so, just study that. The other later cards had to perform the same functions even if they may have done it with...

I think it is nicely written. But there's a few subtle bits. One is that simulation \$\ne\$ synthesis. And the sheet starts out mentioning simulation and then heads over and shows a possible synthesis...

Here's how I'd process the problem, in order:There's no ground shown. Pick a node that looks good to me and call it \$0\:\text{V}\$ (or ground, so to speak.) In this case:Assign known node voltages...
View ArticleComment by periblepsis on How to read switch matrix with 74HC595
@vilmarci Unless you plan daisy-chaining more than one 74HC595 why not just use a decoder. I prefer the 7445. It's bullet-proof, can sink 80 mA and tolerate 30 V at its outputs. Four scan lines need...

So the assumption is that all entering cars go to the upper floor first, until it is filled up? Then how do you know which floor the car came from when leaving?
View ArticleComment by periblepsis on Voltage v2 seems to be opposite for equivalent circuit
The redraw sure looks wrong. Both (-) of the voltage sources are tied together in the redraw. Not so in the original.
View ArticleComment by periblepsis on Voltage v2 seems to be opposite for equivalent circuit
@weycdicdib The current source has zero impact on \$v_x\$. It cannot affect \$v_x\$. So you can get the voltage difference across \$R_2\$ without considering the current source.
View ArticleComment by periblepsis on superposition method to get the voltage
Just convert the current source and the 400 ohm resistor into its thevenin equivalent. Then all you have are three resistances sharing your node of interest, each driven by separate voltages.

What you are looking for is something like the 74121. The 74121 includes a Schmitt-triggered input (which tolerates signals as slow as 1 V/s) and it completely ignores the input, once triggered, so the...

When you finally combined those last two resistor values, you destroyed Vo in the process. The node was removed when you series-combined the two remaining resistors.
