Comment by periblepsis on What is displacement current in electromagnetism? How can it be applied to a capacitor to filter signals if it isn't a real current?

condor12: I'd recommend that you get the 4th edition (or later) of "Matter & Interactions" by Chabay and Sherwood. The book is over 1000 pages, all of it excellent and told from a crystal clear perspective that is rare to see in a book on physics. Circa page 653ff would be a good start, for understanding capacitors, though one type of displacement (polarization) is discussed at page 563 (somewhat earlier.) Polarization displacement doesn't change the net charge, which remains neutral. (Though a charged object can also be polarized.) So also be careful of term usage, I guess.
