Just skimming, it sounds to me that you want a single boost switcher design that you can easily modify (or use a potentiometer and a meter to calibrate it) that will provide output voltages in the range of 5-12 V DC with a compliance current of up to 1 A. And that you don't want to buy a box full of different boost regulators with fixed output voltages. Do you have just a few specific voltages you are likely to need? Or would you really want the ability to have any value in the continuum from 5-12 V? What kinds of
