@AlexisKing Not "inside the wire" but on the surface of the wire. See this video for a demonstration or else the physics book "Matter & Interactions" by Chabay, et al, for additional details (which also covers the very short period at the moment a switch is engaged and before the surface charges reach an equilibrium state.)
