I know that I've seen published formulas. I can't recall where. But the books were very old(circa 1940's). It was in a very thick book and there was a lot of prior knowledge leading up to them. I remember noting the fact that there was good theory that could be applied. But I remember also thinking that, like most anything else, practical construction variations would have to be accounted for. The theory in the book could be adjusted to include those variances. But it would make for a lot of tedious work. If it comes back to me and I remember this question, I'll add a note.
